ASTRID HOGE
Poudre De Lumière
24 April - 24 May 2025
Vernissage Saturday 26 May 3-6pm
Astrid Hoge's work is all about light. How it falls on the interior of a room; the edge of a bedspread illuminated; the motes of dust suspended in the rays of sunlight shining through the window. One thinks of Sorolla, and the European impressionists of the 19th century, they have a timeless quality. The muted colours and imperceptible outlines bring a softness. Her mastery of brushwork, the short strokes infuse an energy to the surface of the painting. A figurative painter who sees no boundary between the abstract and the figurative, one bleeds fluidly into the other.
She describes her practice: "My focus is on smoothly laying down motifs, exploring colour, luminosity and the influence of light on the image. I embrace the power of expression with paint, exploring the depth of colour and the art of capturing light on canvas. In doing so, I play with layering and create an experience where you can feel the light."
This exhibition is Hoge's first solo gallery show and comes shortly after her success at Art Eindhoven where she won the runner-up Jury Prize in the Painting of the Year 2024. The artist was also a selected exhibitor in the 'HOME' group show at The Green Door Gallery in 2023. We are delighted to exhibit a comprehensive collection of her most recent work here in Brussels.
