Marie-Anne Truffino
ESTAMPES TRANSITOIRES
22/09 - 20/10/2024
We are proud to present artist Marie-Anne Truffino with a selection of her latest abstract monotypes.
With a practice firmly rooted in classical painting of the 16th and 17th centuries, themes of transparency, depth, light, and shadow now find a new iteration in Truffino’s latest body of work which she creates using a monotype printing technique.
These paintings are created with liquid pigments on metal plates, the colours manipulated through the artists’ movements. The plates are passed through the metal rollers of a mechanical printing press and transferred onto a paper support in a series of pressings. The results are spontaneous unbounded shapes. The colours emerge into bold abstract images - each one as unique as a fingerprint.
In 2024, Commune d'Ixelles selected Marie-Anne Truffino's site-specific installation of monotypes, “Séquences Organiques” for exhibition at the Chapelle de Boondael.
Marie-Anne Truffino lives and works in Brussels. In 1992, she established Atelier Truffino, where she teaches traditional oil painting techniques.
* A monotype is a single printmaking technique made by drawing an image with ink on the surface of a zinc plate, with no engraving involved. The image is transferred on a sheet of paper using a printing press.
